PSYCH-AID

Digital Psychological Trauma Treatment with a Smart AI Driven Mental Healthcare Platform
Oct 2020 - Sep 2023
Background
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a global mental health problem. 70% of the population will be exposed to at least one traumatic experience in their lifetime. Situations like this can switch the human self-preservation mechanism to permanent alert, which can significantly impact a person’s overall health. This continuous alert status sends trauma-related cues to the brain, possibly causing mental and/or physical dysfunction. This in turn can lead to a mental health condition known as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Some of its symptoms include hallucinations, nightmares, distress, feelings of detachment and isolation from family and friends. PTSD can also trigger other health conditions such as major depressive disorder, anxiety disorder, substance abuse or even suicide. It is estimated that mental disorders will cost the global economy €16T by 2030.
Objective
This partnership between NiceDay and Emteq aims to transform Trauma and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) treatment by developing a digital mental health platform (PSYCH-AID). The platform will connect patients and therapists using digital monitoring tools, AI-based analytics and PTSD management features including EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) using virtual reality and real-time biofeedback.
